WELCOME TO THE BERTHOUD YOUTH ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION (BYAA)

The Berthoud Youth Athletic Association is a non-profit youth and middle school age sports organization whose mission is to foster a positive environment for youth athletes to play a sport competitively that they love, and to develop mental, physical and emotional growth through their participation in competitive sport programs.  Growing up we all played sports of some type, whether it was in neighborhood sandlots or on organized teams.

By promoting the committment to excellence, solid work ethics, teamwork and sportsmanship, boys and girls of all ages and can gain confidence and learn life-long lessons in character, sportmanship as well as developing team building skills which can benefit boys and girls individually in school, their participation in sports and later in life.

 BYAA RESPONSIBLE SPORTS Program

The BYAA will be adopting a Responsible Sports program sponsored by Liberty Mutual in 2009.  BYAA board members and directors completed a pilot run of the Responsible Parenting and Responsible Coaching web based training courses offered free of charge.  After completing the pilot the response was overwhelmingly positive.  This training offers a variety of information that will help coaches, parents, and spectators succeed both on the field/court and off.   There is an additional benefit to the BYAA.  By participating in this program the BYAA is eligible for one of the $2500 annual grants given by the Responsible Sports program.

The BYAA unanimously agreed to a club policy that will requires that every coach, parent/guardian shall attend training annually in the area of Responsible Coaching (for all head and assistant coaches) and Responsible Parenting  (for all parents/guardians who’s children enroll in a BYAA Sports program).   There will be 2 options for completing the training.  Option 1 is to attend one of the in person training presentations offered by the BYAA.  Option 2 is to complete the web-based course, pass the test, and provide your completion certificate to one of the BYAA Board Members.  Our hope is that you will consider both.  If you choose not to complete the web based course/s the BYAA is requesting that you review the information that was presented to you in option 1 and complete the online test.  By completing the test you will be certified, and will increase the chances of the BYAA receiving one of the Grants.

To complete the online training please read these instructions all the way through before starting.

To get started look for this logo on the top right of the BYAA website home page and click on it.

This will take you to the Responsible Sports home page.  Once at the Responsible Sports home page click on either the “Responsible Coaching” or “Responsible Sport Parenting” words, which will be highlighted when you put your mouse pointer over them (left hand side). Once you have clicked on the “Responsible Coaching” or “Responsible Sport Parenting” you are now on you’re way to reviewing the information. Read through the information on each page. Towards the end of the first section you will see a “Get Started” button, click on this and it will take you to the next page/section for you to review. Continue clicking on the “Next>> or Next Section>>” and it will step you all the way through the website. There are online videos on specific pages that you can review. The web videos do have good information in them that are optional for you to view.    Also there are pdf files on specific pages that you can print out. We do suggest that you click on these .pdf files and print these out because they will help you at the end so you don’t have to page back all the time when taking the test, but again this is optional. ONLY FOR RESPONSIBLE COACHING: There is one spot in the Responsible Coaching section called “Coaching: X’s and O’s and Beyond. You can review the specific X’s and O’s based on the sport that you are coaching.  This is optional but encouraged if your sport is represented. The section that is necessary is the “Coaching Beyond X’s and O’s”.  The following is currently offered.

·    Football X's and O's

·    Soccer X's and O's

·    Softball X's and O's

·    Coaching Beyond X's and O's

Following each link at the bottom of each page will take you to the end where you will need to take a test. The test is a 10-question test.  After taking the test click on “Submit”.  If any questions are incorrect you will continued to be asked the questions until you get all 10 questions anwered correctly. BYAA does not get the test result nor do we want them. This is a learning process for parents and coaches.  Once you pass the test, read the instructions to get the certificate. You will need to print out the certificate and deliver it to BYAA in order for you to coach or for the parents to attend games.

Before you exit please click on the “Search For Your Organization” to find the BYAA
