WELCOME TO THE BERTHOUD YOUTH ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION (BYAA)

The Berthoud Youth Athletic Association is a non-profit organization whose mission is to foster a positive environment for youth athletes to play a sport they love and to develop mental, physical and emotional growth through their participation in competitive sport programs.  We all played sports of some type growing up whether it was in neighborhood sandlots or on organized teams.  By promoting the committment to excellence, solid work ethics, teamwork and sportsmanship, children of all ages and can gain confidence and learn life-long lessons as well as team building skills which can benefit them individually in school, their participation in sports and later in life.

PARENT BEHAVIOR SEMINARS

MANDATORY ATTENDANCE REQUIRED

The Berthoud Youth Athletic Assn is hosting a series of “Parent Behavior” seminars in the hopes of making parents think about their behavior and to deter problems that have been encountered these past seasons.  Attendance is MANDATORY for at least one parent of all players for the upcoming 2008/09 seasons in football, volleyball, basketball, and softball.  Parents need to make sure they sign in at any of the seminars to prove attendance.  If one parent of a player does not attend one of the seminars before the season, your son will not get to play.   Berthoud has become known these past seasons for “questionable behavior” in the treatment of officials and coaches.  We want parents and their children to enjoy the process and journey of developing the skills necessary to play any sport they love.  This past behavior is the main reason why the BYAA is paying for these “parent behavior” seminars conducted by Gary Avischious, of Coaching School.org who works with both Colorado and national amateur youth organizations on the problems in today’s youth sports programs.  The behavior of some Berthoud parents is causing a negative perception for Berthoud youth teams.  We as an organization want to change that perception. Football parents who missed the initial two sessions must attend the final August 20th session at 7pm at the Berthoud Community Center.  Players will not be allowed to play if a parent misses this last session.  Volleyball and basketball parents may attend either the August 20th or Sept 11th session which is the last session before the opening weekend of the volleyball season.  Parents only need to attend one seminar per calendar season for their son or daughter even if they play multiple sports in BYAA.  However, we encourage all parents to attend as the BYAA is striving to have parents empower themselves to police themselves during games.   Call your Coach or Sports Director with any questions on these seminars.

$$$ FUNDRAISING $$$

It is that time of year (always actually) that we gather together and come to some decisions regarding fund raising for our children and the BYAA.  We would like to have a quick, informal meeting for all interested parents after the Parent Conduct Meeting on Wednesday, August 20th at the Community Center.  This meeting should go from 7-7:45 and we would like to get together after this.  We will discuss individual fund raising choices, as well as working concessions at the Budweiser Event Center for hockey games, soccer games, concerts, etc and at CSU sporting events.  All these would require more than one family and some minor training of a few parents for alcohol sales.  If you are interested, please let me know you will be attending, or not attending if you are still interested, and we will get a start and try to work together to make all these sports fun and affordable! Please come with an open mind and lots of suggestions and ideas!!!
